MD/PhD Program

The Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta offers the MD/PhD program as one option within its opportunities for medical research education. The program allows students to obtain both an MD degree and a PhD degree and prepares them for a career as a clinician-scientist. Please note that to enter the MD/PhD program, admittance to the MD program must have already been gained. The MD/PhD program is intended for exceptional students who are seriously committed to a career in medical research. The format of the program is the student completes the first two years of the MD program, transfers into a PhD program, and when the PhD is completed, the student returns to the final two years of the MD program.

Clinician Investigator Program

The Clinician Investigator Program (CIP) offered by the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta is intended for clinical residents who wish to pursue careers as clinical investigators. The program is approved by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Any resident registered in a postgraduate program in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry is eligible.
